Years ago, I spent a summer week with my father's father.  It was a relatively quiet week--my grandpa was never known to be much of a talker.  We watched TV together.  We ate meals together.  We visited my grandmother's grave together.  We sat and read together.  What we didn't do was talk together.  It wasn't a silence full of akward, we-have-nothing-to-talk-about moments.  It was a silence shared between two people who didn't like to talk.

In a way, my grandfather and I were kindred spirits.  He was quiet, he often preferred solitude, and he was stubborn as a mule--stubborn enough to quit smoking cold-turkey without a look back.  He watched television and read all day, and until his health began to determine his level of freedom, he always seemed happy.  If I had to pick one person in my family that I take after, he'd be the one.

I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to see my grandfather lucid before he went--I missed my chance last weekend.  However, my guess would be that he wouldn't care either way.  I'm happy that he got his wish not to draw it out any longer.  I'm happy that I got to see him before he went.

For fear of being overly wordy--something I'm sure he wouldn't tolerate--I'll stop eulogizing my grandfather now.  May he rest in peace.

oh wow, i'm sorry cool mike i had no idea! death is all part of the natural cycle of things, but when someone passes that you share a bond with like that, it's always a hard situation to take. if you want to talk or anything, you know i'm here for you. i hope you had a wonderful christmas!

ps

this may lighten your spirits... i taught tim the meaning of christmas since he apparently didn't know that it's called "Christmas" because of jesus. i guess the fact that christmas is spelled CHRISTmas didnt spell it out for him (get it, spell it out? lol). im guessing the idea that jesus was born on christmas day (as it's said in so many christmas songs) never caught on with him either. i found it kind of funny. he always thought it was about santa and presents lol that's our timbo!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I don't really know what else there is to say since I've never lost anyone close to me before. I'm not sure if you're religious at all, but I am (sometimes) so I'll keep him and your family in my prayers.

Aw man Mike, that was a good Eulogy of him, your grandfather sounded like a good man.

But if it helps, (now I don't know how you mourn) When my family has funerals, we look at it as a time to celebrate the person passing's life.  In fact, as messed up as it sounds, we stand around the casket and joke about the person, remembering him for the mistakes he or she made, the funny things he or she did when they were among the living, and the moments we treasured most with them.  In fact, at Enterline Family Funerals, hardly a tear is shed.  Its usally alot of laughing, then we eat afterwards, and the family member lives on in our hearts and memories.  My grandfather died in 1996, we all showed up, and it didnt even seem like a funeral, more like a family picnic, in formal wear.  When my grandmother died, back in 03, that was a different story, at least for me.  She died right before graduation, making me the only grandkid she didnt see finish highschool (of us that were close to finishing).  So, that was a hard time for me.

Anyway, after that long tale, I think what Im trying to say is, even though he's gone, he's still right there with you when you watch a TV, or read a book, or just sit and think all by your lonesome.

You have never had a drink of anything?  Thats unbelievable.  How are you still alive?  Its one of your natural needs for survival.  Id recommend trying some water or something in the near future you must do something to quench your thirst.  Id also recommend seeing a doctor soon, I have never heard of this happening.  Do you not sleep either?

That compliment means a lot comming from a man whose humor I respect as much as yours.  By the way you still running all the time?  This summer I have decided its time for me to do more than just treadmill running, we should run together.  That is.......if your still running.
